Relax and Recover

This weekend, I took much needed time

to relax and recover from the pressures of on-line teaching, parenting four children, staying married, and surviving a global pandemic. So, we had a small Thanksgiving (the first since our marriage with fewer than 10 people) and I spent most of these past few days reading and relaxing. I read 3 books (all fast-paced crime dramas), I nearly finished a 700 piece puzzle, and I had pie for breakfast. I wish I could say I spent some time crafting some poems or revising old ones. But sometimes, you just need to relax and recover before you can create.
Short, but that's what makes the pieces easy to digest--and savor--in small bites. Two of my favorite novels that I first read in my teens have chapters--vignettes--that are 1-3 pages long each, and every one of them has an impact that stands alone. I've re-read them a dozen times over the past 50+ years and every time I marvel at that format as the perfect way to tell a story. They are "Mrs. Bridge" and "Mr. Bridge" by Evan S. Connell.
