Publishing Process

The process of publishing requires far more organization and planning than my entire writing process. I spend hours scouring Poets and Writers Magazine's extensive data base
of print and online magazines and journals. Then, I spend a few more hours reading poetry- trying to find journals that publish contemporaries to my style and ideas. I've created a massive chart recording which places seem like a "good fit" for my work and then scrounge through my unpublished pieces (most places prefer first serial rights) to find just the right set of poems to submit. And then, I wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. And eventually,

I hear - most are canned rejections, but every once in a while, editors choose to publish one of my poems.
